at the big house
After a year working throughout the city of Ann Arbor, Pipetek Infrastructure Services received a request to use CCTV technology within the University of Michigan’s famed Big House Football Stadium in Ann Arbor, MI.
Over two-days, a three man Pipetek Crew, led by Paul and assisted by Tyler and Ryan, worked to manually operate equipment traditionally found in a customized truck through each of the stairwells located in the stadiums 120,000 seats.
For each of the crew, this unique working environment created a meaningful context. Paul, leading the operation, reflected on his personal experience playing and starting during three years at the University of Maine, selected as Captain during his senior year. While working in The Big House, Paul reflected on the value of a “team” — specifically, one driven by a common goal and characterized by mutual respect — and how he’s grown with Pipetek simultaneously as with the company itself.
In selecting his crew, Pipetek chose Tyler as the CCTV Operator — both one of the most skilled operators within the Pipetek family and also a passionate college football fan. As an Ohio native, in Tyler’s case this passion is for the Ohio State Buckeye’s — made visually clear with a collection of Buckeye Stickers adorning his PPE hardhat. Although Tyler represented a stereotypically ironic choice, the energy of working in the Big House was equally enjoyed.
Completing the three-man Pipetek Team, Ryan joined the effort aiding Tyler’s CCTV operations and hauling a literal truck-load of inspection equipment up and down the Big House stairs. Reflecting on the experience, Ryan compared the Big House to the traditional “off-highway” working environment adding poignant perspective to the uniqueness of the working experience.
To capture the opportunity, we sent our video crew to talk with the team members and show the operations in detail. A link to the video is as follows:
